How to Transport a Scissor Lift Safely
A surprising amount of damage to access equipment happens during loading and transport. A few simple steps protect the machine – and everyone around it.
Before you load
- Check the machine's weight and dimensions against your vehicle or trailer's capacity.
- Make sure the vehicle, trailer and ramps are rated for the load.
- Fully lower and stow the platform, and remove loose items from the deck.
Loading
- Load on firm, level ground.
- Drive slowly and straight up the ramps, with someone guiding you from a safe position.
- Use the machine's tie-down and lifting points only – never the guardrails or scissor arms.
- Many machines must not be driven on slopes beyond their rated gradeability – check the manual.
Securing
- Use suitably rated chains or straps at the designated tie-down points.
- Apply the brakes and switch the machine off; isolate the battery if required.
- Check the load is secure before setting off, and again after the first few miles.
Unloading
Reverse the process: firm, level ground, slow and controlled, with a guide.
