Scissor Lift Battery Care: 7 Tips to Make Your Batteries Last
On an electric scissor lift, the batteries are one of the most expensive parts to replace. Good habits make a big difference to how long they last.
1. Charge after every working day
Lead-acid batteries don't like being left partly discharged. Put the machine on charge at the end of each shift, even if it was only used lightly.
2. Let the charge cycle finish
Unplugging halfway through can leave the batteries unbalanced. Let the charger complete its cycle.
3. Avoid running them completely flat
Deep discharges shorten battery life. Charge before the machine starts to slow down or cut out.
4. Check water levels regularly
For wet lead-acid batteries, check electrolyte levels and top up with distilled or deionised water after charging, not before – unless the plates are exposed.
5. Keep terminals clean and tight
Corrosion and loose connections cause voltage drops and heat. Clean terminals and check cables as part of routine servicing.
6. Store charged, and top up during long breaks
If the machine is parked for weeks, store it fully charged and give it a charge periodically. Cold weather makes flat batteries more vulnerable to damage.
7. Use the right charger
Always use the charger designed for the machine and battery type, and check the cable and plug for damage.
